Sewing-Project Bags

Hello,
I like cute nice things?  Do you?  I do a lot of crafting in public,  on the train, bus, car, DMV...you get my drift.  I like to keep productive and busy when I have dead brain time.  I like to bring cute bags whether its my purse or a project.  Now being a sewer, note not a seamstress it sometimes presents a challenge to the cost effectiveness of making purchases.  Since I am a DIYer I love to shop ETSY, Artfire and independent small business.

Most recently I purchased this Heather Ross Large Box Set From PiddleLoop Sewing Team.  I heard about them from the KnitGirllls.

This bag set retails for $28 plus shipping.  After browsing I decided on this bag mainly due to wanting to support them and the price.  I also request for a grommet hole to be added as well.  I had to send a separate email afterwards so I wasn't quite sure they received it but when my bags arrived the grommet hole was there yay.  My bags was packaged well and arrived within one week.
The bag was nicely folded flat.

 Cha-Ching.

I eagerly opened the bag and wondered why it smelled a little like....old lady?  To my surprise there was a goody bag filled with laffy taffy candy and 2 lifesavers mints.  That was the smell.  Gave those to my husband and that was that.  What a cute gesture too.

How cute is that zip lock bag!

My only negative is the Grosgrain ribbon which I knew when I purchased this that the handle was ribbon instead of fabric. For me as a traveling knitter/crocheter I use that handle the most so I will have to see its endurance throughout this year.

I examined the bag for the grommet hole for a brief moment I though crap I was too late...nope there is was...yay. I thought the construction was well made, lined nice seams too.

For me as a traveling knitter/crocheter I use that handle the most so I will have to see its endurance throughout this year.  Overall the bag is a nice size and had a great deep so your projects don't get caught in the zipper.

You ask why would you buy a bag if you can sew:
Time.-Are you busy do you have time to make a bag?
Cost of Fabric-some upholstery/Themed fabric can be cheaper to have someone else pay shipping and do the labor.
Can't find the fabric!
Support an Indie business
Bags are lined, pockets
Because you can afford it! Tadah!
I will continue to buy bags and sew them as well.  I have purchased my fabric but that will be a post for another time :).

Happy Shopping or Selling!

Elise Shawl

Hi There!
It is a beautiful sunny day here in Chicago and I am hunkered down crafting!  Oh yea. I have snuck out to let the dog out and I will admit it was refreshing!

Craft: Crochet
I remember when I would see crochet I would think...its old looking ....I don't want to make no Granny Square!  Crochet can be beautiful enough to suit any style.

FO-Finished Objects
I did finish my the Elise Shawl!

I originally added this shawl to my favorites list on Ravelry in 2011.  I was still new to crochet but I thought this loveliness was just beautiful.  Three years later I still feel the same way :).  This was one of those opportunities where when you walk away, revisit it and your work through that thing like lightening.  That is exactly what happened here! After seeing the pattern I wanted to make this just like the designer.  I purchased the yarn from Little Knits, who has AWESOME sales.  The way the pattern was writing was visually confusing to me.  I took the pattern and copied each sentence and put them each one one line.  I needed to break it up.  Once I got to the 5 and 6 row repeat I was good to go. Blocking  and exaggerating the points as the pattern suggest makes this shall come come to life.  This also would make a killer gift!

It was a joy to work with this merino, cashmere and nylon blend.  Extremely soft on the hands and worked into simply great fabric.

Age of Steam and Brass Kerchief

Greetings!

I have a FO (finished object) to share.  The Age of Steam and Brass is complete!  This was a great pattern and I highly recommend it.

If you are like me and love to have neckwear this pattern is a must.  It's a great way to build skills and totally potato chip knitting for an experienced knitter.
Since it has been a while since I had anything but vanilla socks on the needles I had to refresh myself.  I am glad I did and the weather is still cool here so I will get to wear it!  So can you recommend a good skill building pattern? Let me know

Rekindeled Love with all things Yarny

Happy Resurrection Day!!
As I sit here before the cooking begins I decided I should start a blog about all the other stuff I do....right?  Well here goes!  I enjoy anything creative knitting, crochet, sewing, scrapbooking, cardmaking, jewelry making....shoot everything and I would like to share that creativity with you here!  Lets get to it.

Lets talk about Ravelry!  Genius!!  I taught myself to crochet and kit from You Tube.  You can learn anything once you put your heart to it.  I am not an expert on either craft but I do enjoy them both.  So let me share:
